It is important, for us bipeds, to be outdoors as much as possible. I ate dinner tonight at the boat Basin Cafe, a place which was so noisy as to almost make me forget how settled I momentarily felt.

And we are, by the end of the rainfall, to understand what the burden is, where it came from, etc.

I realize it's a cliche to say "rain is sad," but I do feel sometimes, as when we get several days--days, I tell you--of rain, as if the "natural world" is dropping some kind of burden off its shoulders onto ours.

Spent Sunday clompety-clomp-clomping around downtown, various shopping reasons. Very hot. Very humid. Upon coming home, met someone in my building who asked how I was. My answer was "It's so hot." But then there was a breeze at night that helped me forgive the sun.
