After careful research, I've discovered that Sufjan Stevens began his career as a writing student at the New School. I'd have to suspect it was poetry, too. Since he's a young guy, it can't have been that long ago. It makes me think that many of today's MFA students, particularly the ones who are producing faint, weird, not-quite-present work might have a lot of music in them... And good music too. That maybe their deire to write poems is actually a desire to write music. I know the two are related. But still. Think of the marketing transformation...

We should consider, along with the more lofty things we make time to consider, to what extent the everyday can inform the noteveryday, i.e., what knowing about fill valves and gas hoses can teach you about the fulfillment of the subjective dream.
